If the LCD display of the V2c or V3 cyclecomputer will not come to life after having removed the paper battery shim in the head unit for the first time (or after any battery change of the computer head unit), the gold colored positive anode (at 6 o'clock position) is likely not making contact with the battery. Remove the battery cover from the back of computer head unit, then remove the battery from the head unit. Make sure the positive anode is not bent and subsequently trapped underneath the battery. If the anode has been bent down, bend it back up just enough that the thin edge of the battery can be seated underneath the anode. Reinstall the battery with the end of the positive anode sitting flat against round, positive side of battery, then reinstall the battery cover. If the battery is installed properly, head unit should now beep once, illuminate the green LED backlight, and then display the 222, 555 test pattern before going to the clock/date set screen.
